Jerry has extensive experience in the petroleum refining industry.  His background includes 30 years with Exxon (later ExxonMobil).  During this time, he spent nearly 8 years in the welding and fabrication area of Exxon Research and Engineering Company with emphasis on providing support to worldwide capital projects, assisting in repairs of refining equipment and providing training regarding welding and the use of ASME IX.  He spent 11 years as the refinery metallurgist at Exxon’s Baytown Refinery with involvement in materials selection, corrosion investigations, failure analysis, inspection, turnaround planning and risk-based inspection assessments.  He held assignments at Exxon’s domestic Refining Headquarters as well as at company refineries in Germany and Australia.  For more than 12 years he chaired a committee of Exxon metallurgists representing global assets in the refining and chemicals segments of the industry.  In this role, he contributed to the development and implementation of both long-range and short-range R&D initiatives in the materials area.

Since joining Equity Engineering, Jerry has worked as a consultant to North American, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, Asian, and European refiners in the areas of capital projects, materials selection, failure analysis, corrosion studies, crude evaluations, operating envelopes, and reliability.  He is Equity’s lead trainer for the API 571 Damage Mechanisms course as well as the developer and lead trainer for their Welding Engineering and Materials Engineering courses.

Jerry had been an active member of NACE International, participating in various subcommittees/task groups of STG-34 Refining Industry Corrosion, and has been a long-term member of the American Welding Society (AWS).
