Equity’s Process Design Practices (PDPs) help petrochemical, ammonia, fertilizer, and pharmaceutical engineering teams standardize equipment sizing, process design, and troubleshooting guidelines. Available through the Equity Engineering Practices® (EEPs) platform, the PDPs cover vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and fractionation towers while preserving institutional knowledge, reducing design rework, and accelerating process engineering packages from conceptual engineering through unit commissioning.

Universal Principles for Process & Equipment Design
Process Design Practices (PDPs) are a set of universal documents to support process and equipment design for petrochemical, ammonia, fertilizer, plastic, and pharmaceutical manufacturers – from conceptual engineering through unit commissioning.
Globally applicable, the PDPs draw upon chemical engineering best practices and industry experience to deliver technical details and guidelines for designing, requesting, evaluating, and troubleshooting the most common equipment in the process industry. The PDPs are available through the Equity Engineering Practices® (EEPs) platform.
What are the PDPs?
The PDPs give engineering teams a clear, reliable foundation for process design work. You will reduce rework, shorten learning curves, and preserve the technical rigor previously held by senior engineers or central engineering teams.
- Provide a set of clear and reliable process design documents for critical areas like equipment sizing, fluid handling, heat integration, and safety systems
- Deliver detailed and practical guidelines for improving and optimizing the design of essential equipment such as vessels, towers, heat exchangers, and pumps
- Serve as training tools to mentor the next generation of engineers
- Preserve the expertise of experienced professionals and make this knowledge permanently available and relevant in day-to-day operations
Equipment Covered in the PDPs
- Vessels
- Towers
- Heat exchangers
- Pumps
- Tanks
- Compressors
- Fractionation towers
- Piping
How to Leverage the PDPs:
- Develop process engineering packages – Use the PDPs as the foundation for creating consistent, technically rigorous internal process engineering packages.
- Guide EPC firm deliverables – Provide clear equipment and process design requirements for third-party engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms.
- Review program recommendations – Compare EPC deliverables against the PDPs to confirm design and engineering packages meet your specified requirements.
- Revamp existing equipment – Apply established design and engineering principles when modifying or upgrading equipment for new service requirements.
- Troubleshoot operations – Diagnose operational issues with existing equipment versus original design requirements.
- Mentor new employees – Capture corporate process engineering knowledge in the PDPs and use it to mentor and train new engineers.
