Dr. Slovenec is a member of the Mechanical & Structural Engineering Team at Equity. As a member of this team, he evaluates the reliability of existing structural systems, which support various types of equipment within petrochemical and other refining facilities, and provides repair plans to address any deficiencies. He also performs various consulting projects using ASME BPVC Section VIII, API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 Fitness-For-Service, and other industry standard methodologies. Dr. Slovenec is an instructor for Equity’s Technical Institute course on storage tanks. Dr. Slovenec is a member of the ASCE 7 committee for the 2028 cycle serving on the Wind, Seismic, and General Requirements subcommittees.
Dr. Slovenec supports the Engineering Practices (EPs) Team by managing the EPs for marine facilities and many civil/structural engineering topics, as well as the development of a new series of Structural Integrity program practices.
Dr. Slovenec earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. His research focused on developing a performance-based design methodology for multiple hazards (seismic, blast, wind, impact, etc.) as well as the investigation of a seismic rehabilitation technique for steel structures. This research included application of fundamental theory, computational methods, and large-scale experimental testing
