Fixed-interval PRD inspection programs treat every device the same regardless of service severity, failure history, or process safety significance. The result is a mix of over-inspection of low-risk devices and under-inspection of high-risk ones, with no quantitative link between the inspection program and the reliability targets assumed in the facility’s PHA. This webinar presents three complementary approaches to risk-informed PRD inspection interval analysis: qualitative risk screening for population-level prioritization, POFOD updating with LOPA integration for safeguard validation, and quantitative RBI per API 581 for devices requiring the most rigorous assessment. Attendees will see how these methods work together as a unified framework and how to determine which approach fits their facility’s needs.

What You Will Learn:

  • How time-based PRD inspection intervals can lead to simultaneous over-inspection of low-risk devices and under-inspection of high-risk ones
  • The disconnect between PHA/LOPA safeguard crediting and what most PRD inspection programs actually target and validate
  • How qualitative risk screening can prioritize large PRD populations without requiring the data inputs of a full RBI assessment
  • How probability of failure on demand (POFOD) updating works and how it connects inspection results back to the reliability assumptions in the facility’s PHA
  • When full quantitative RBI per API 581 Part 5 is warranted and what additional information it provides over the other approaches
  • How to select the right analysis tier for a given device or population based on data availability, consequence of failure, and regulatory requirements
  • How these three methods can be applied in combination across a single facility or multi-site portfolio
