Re-Use and Re-Purposing of Assets for a Change in Service

December 2, 2021 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

Presenters: James Olson and Joel Andreani, P.E.

With the global increase in focus on sustainability for products and services, government policy and consumer preference are shifting demands in the refining, petrochemical, and chemical industries.  This has resulted in the increased focus on renewable energy sources.  Our industries have responded with many companies evolving and adapting facilities to meet the future demand for renewable diesel and other green / blue energy sources and products.  The re-use of existing equipment for revamp projects or asset debottlenecks and reliability improvements has grown into entire process units being evaluated for these sustainable products. Our subject matter experts (SMEs) have developed practices, reviewed metallurgy for changes in service, rerated equipment, determined remaining useful life, designed necessary modifications, evaluated existing foundations and structures for the new loads imposed by facility re-purposing, and assisted with economic evaluations of re-use.   We are currently putting much of this knowledge into a new offering in our Equity Engineer Practices (EEPs), the Re-Use Practices (RUPs).  This webinar will focus on the key steps in the process for evaluating the re-purposing of existing plant assets, the data needed in this evaluation, the economics of re-use, and other related best practices that E2G SMEs have implemented in our consulting and in our new RUPs.  These RUPs become a key part of the Management of Change (MOC) process evaluations and documentation to meet the Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
