Ensuring Realistic Predictions When Fitting Creep Test Data

Synopsis

One of the advantages of the Omega model is that creep tests do not need to be run all the way out to rupture in order to predict the rupture time. They just need to be run out long enough that there is sufficient curvature in the strain, so that a value of Ω can be discerned with reasonable accuracy. Creep tests can be expensive, so shorter term tests are much more economical.
