Overview:

Mark Harmody currently leads the Training Team while serving as a risk-based inspection (RBI) technical authority.

Previously, he managed Equity’s team of RBI project managers, inspection specialists, and technical assistants.  This group executes RBI implementations and reassessments for refineries and chemical plants using the guidance and technology detailed in API RPs 580 and 581.  Throughout his project work, Mark shares his expertise in using API RPs 580 and 581 to develop RBI plans for fixed equipment, storage tanks, PSVs, and heat exchanger bundles.  During this extensive RBI project experience, he has also become a skilled practitioner of API RBI software to calculate risk for inspection planning.

Mark serves on the API RP 581 Steering Committee.  Using his knowledge of this API recommended practice and the experience gained in the real-world application of RBI, Mark serves as a highly rated instructor of Equity’sAPI RP 580/581 course. 

Mark has assisted in the testing and development of the RBI technology within the API RBI software, including consequence analyses and asset modeling.  Mark also has experience as a mechanical engineer for an owner-user providing engineering support for piping stress analyses, thermal design of heat transfer equipment, capital project management, and turnaround support.
